Gr. 2, 919). *ETYM Generally explained as a ptc. of » αἴθω meaning ‘glowing, place where the sun burns’ or ‘place where fire can be kindled’, which is hardly convincing. A better explanation is that of Fur: 197%, who deems it a substrate word, as a technical term of building, because of the form with -σσ-. The form » … — [Beekes, s.v. αἴθουσα, p. 83]
