1. ذُرِّيَّةٌ
*ur~iy~apN * , (S, Msb, K,) the most chaste form, (Msb,) and *ir~iy~apN , (Msb, K,) and *ariy~apN , this last without a sheddeh to the r (Msb,) [respecting the derivation of which see art. *rA^ ,] (assumed tropical:) Children, or offspring, (S, Mgh, Msb, K,) as also ↓ *ar~N , (Msb,) of a man, (S, K,) [and of genii: see art. *rA^ ,] male or female: (IAth:) little ones, or young ones. (Mgh, Msb.) ― -b2- Also (tropical:) Progenitors, or ancestors. (Msb, MF.) ― -b3- Also (assumed tropical:) Women. (Mgh, K.) ― -b4- Used in a sing. as well as a pl. sense. (Mgh, Msb, K.) ― -b5- Pl. *ur~iy~aAtN and (sometimes, Msb) *araAriY~u . (S, Msb, K.) 2. ذُرِّيَّةٌ
*ur~iy~apN * (T, S, M, Mgh, K) and *ir~iy~apN (M, K) and *ar~iy~apN , (K,) [or *ariy~apN , without a sheddeh to the r , accord. to the Msb in art. *r ,] always pronounced by the Arabs without ' : (S:) accord. to some, (TA,) from Al*~aro'u ; (M, TA;) so says Th; (M;) the measure of the first being fuE~uwlapN or fuE~iylapN ; [so that it is originally *ur~uw'apN or *ur~iyoy^apN ;] (TA;) but the ' is suppressed because of frequency of usage: (M:) accord. to others, from Al*~ar~u , signifying “ the act of scattering; ” because God scattered the *r~y~p upon the earth; and the measure is fuEoliy~apN or fuE~uwlapN , [if the latter,] the word being originally *ur~uwrapN , the last r being changed into Y , in a manner similar to the case of taqaD~ati AlEuqaAbi [in which taqaD~aDat becomes taqaD~ayat and then taqaD~at ; so that *ur~uwrapN becomes *ur~uwyapN and then *ur~iy~apN ]: (TA:) Children, or offspring, (T, S, Mgh, K,) of a man, and used as a sing. also, (Mgh,) or of men and of jinn, or genii: (S, K:) pl. [ *ur~iy~aAtN (see art. *r ) and sometimes] *araAriY~u . (S.) Hence, habo liY mino ladunoka *ur~iy~apF Tay~ibapF [in the Kur iii. 33, meaning Give me, from Thee, a good offspring ]. (Mgh.) And in a trad. of Ibn-'Omar, fajaEalaniY fiY Al*~ur~iy~api means And he put me among the little ones, or young ones. (Mgh.) ― -b2- It is also applied to signify Progenitors: as in the saying, in the Kur [xxxvi. 41], HamalonaA *ur~iy~atahumo fiY A@lofuloki Alma$oHuwni [ We carried their progenitors in the laden ark ]. (T.) ― -b3- And it is used also to signify Women; [because they are the sources of offspring;] (T, Mgh, TA;) like as samaA='N is used to signify “ rain: ” (TA:) as in the saying of 'Omar, Huj~uwA biAl*~ur~iy~api [ Perform ye the pilgrimage with the women ]. *ariy~apN * A she-camel by means of which one conceals himself from the objects of the chase: on the authority of Th: but the more approved word is with d [i. e. dariy~apN , or, accord. to AZ, dariyoy^apN ]. (M.)
