1 daAma dAm dAmy , aor. yaduwmu and yadaAmu ; (S, M, Msb, K;) the see. pers. of the pret. when the aor. is yaduwmu being dumota ; and when the aor. is yadaAm , dimota ; (M;) and accord. to Kr, (M,) you say also dimota , aor. taduwmu , which is extr., (M, K,) and not of valid authority, held by the lexicologists [in general] to be anomalous like mit~a having for its aor. tamuwtu , and faDila of which the aor. is yafoDulu , and HaDira of which the aor. is yaHoDuru , and said by Aboo-Bekr to be a compound of the pret. of which the aor. is tadaAmu with the aor. of which the pret. is dumota ; (M;) inf. n. dawomN and dawaAmN [which is the most common form] and dayomuwmapN [originally dayowamuwmapN , like qayoduwdapN originally qayowaduwdapN , &c.]; (S, M, Msb, K;) i. q. vabata [as meaning It (a thing, S, M, Msb) continued, lasted, endured, or remained ]: (Msb, TK:) and it became extended, or prolonged; syn. Aimotad~a : (TK:) and [ it continued, lasted, endured, or remained, long; ] its time was, or became, long: (TA:) and i. q. baqiYa [as syn. with vabata (explained above) and as meaning it continued, lasted, or existed, incessantly, always, endlessly, or for ever; it was, or became, permanent, perpetual, or everlasting ]: (Msb in art. bqY :) and ↓ AstdAm signifies the same as dAm [in all of these senses]: (TA:) [but Mtr says,] AstdAm Als~afaru [ The journey continued, or continued long, ] is not of established authority. (Mgh.) [Hence, daAma mulokuhu May his dominion be of long continuance. ] And dAm EalaY AlA^amori ; (MA;) and Ealayohi ↓ dAwm , [and ↓ dAwmhu , as is shown by a usage of the act. part. n. in art. dmn in the S, &c.,] (S, * MA,) inf. n. mudaAwamapN ; (S;) He kept continually, or constantly, to the thing, or affair. (S, MA.) maA daAma means Continuance; because mA is a conjunct noun to dAm ; and it is not used otherwise than adverbially, like as inf. ns. are used adverbially: you say, laA A^ajolisu maA dumota qaAy^imFA , i. e., dawaAma qiyaAmika [ I will not sit during the continuance of thy standing ]; (S, TA;) [or as long as thou standest; or while thou standest; for] mA denotes time; and qumo maA daAma zayodN qaAy^imFA means mud~apa qiyaAmi zayodK [i. e. Stand thou during the period of Zeyd's standing ]. (Ibn-Keysán, TA.) [And EalaYAld~awaAmi means Continually, or constantly; like daAy^imFA .] ― -b2- Said of rain, it means It fell, or descended, consecutively, continuously, or constantly. (Msb.) Some say, (M,) daAmati Als~amaA='u , aor. tadiymN , inf. n. dayomN , (M, K,) which, if correct, should be included in art. dym , (M,) meaning The sky rained continually; as also ↓ daw~amat and day~amat , (M, K,) in which last the w is changed into Y as it is in diymapN , (M,) and ↓ AdAmt : (K:) or rained such rain as is termed diymap ; (M in art. dym ;) and so ↓ day~amat , inf. n. tadoyiymN ; (S in art. dym ;) and ↓ AdAmt . (Z, TA.) [See also dawomN , below.] IAar cites the following verse, (M, TA,) by Jahm Ibn-Shibl, (TA in this art.,) or Ibn-Sebel, (TA in art. sbl , in which, also, the verse is cited,) in praise of a horse, as is said in “ the Book of Plants ” of Ed-Deenäwaree, and in “ the Book of Horses ” of Ibn-El-Kelbee, not, as J asserts it to be, in praise of a munificent man, (TA,) huwa AljawaAdu bonu AljawaAdi boni sabalo jaAda wa A_ino jaAduwA wabalo ↓ A_ino day~amuwA [ He is the fleet, the son of the fleet, the son of Sebel (a famous mare): if they are unremitting in their running, (the masc. pl. being here used, though relating to horses, in like manner as it is used in the Kur xli. 20,) he is fleet; and if they are fleet, he is vehement in his running ]: or, as some relate it, A_ino daw~amuwA .
