1 galafa * , (S, O, Msb, K,) aor. galifa , (Msb,) inf. n. galofN , (O, Msb, TA,) He put a bottle, or flask, (S, O, K, TA,) or a knife, (Msb,) &c., (TA,) into a gilaAf [q. v.]; (S, O, Msb, K, TA;) as also ↓ Aglf , (S, Msb,) inf. n. A_igolaAfN ; (Msb;) or ↓ gl~f , inf. n. tagoliyfN : (K, TA:) or ↓ the second signifies, (Msb,) or signifies also, (S,) he furnished it with a gilaAf ; (S, Msb;) or ↓ gl~f signifies thus: (TA:) AlqaAruwrapa ↓ A^agolafotu is said by Lth to be from AlgilaAfu ; and so ↓ gal~afotuhaA , inf. n. tagoliyfN . (O.) ― -b2- And accord. to Lth, (O,) one says, galafa liHoyatahu biAlgaAliyapi , (S, Mgh, O, Msb,) aor. galifa , (Msb,) inf. n. galofN , (S,) meaning He daubed, or smeared, his beard with [ the perfume called ] gaAliyap [q. v.], (Mgh, TA,) and likewise with other perfume, and with Hin~aA=' ; (TA;) and ↓ gal~afahaA : (Mgh, TA:) but accord. to IDrd, the vulgar say so: (O, Msb, TA:) he says that the correct phrase is gal~aAhaA (Mgh, O, Msb, TA) bAlgAlyp , (O,) and gal~alahaA : (Mgh, O, Msb:) in a trad. of 'Aacute;ïsheh, however, liHoyapa rasuwli A@ll~`hi ↓ kunotu A^ugal~ifu occurs as meaning I used to daub, or smear, the beard of the Apostle of God with gAlyp , doing so abundantly: (TA:) and one says, of a man, ↓ tgl~f (Lth, Th, S, O, TA) biAlgaAliyapi (Th, S, TA) wasaAy^iri AlT~iybi (Th, TA) [i. e. He daubed, or smeared, himself, or his beard, with gAlyp and the other sorts of perfume ]; and [in like manner,] ↓ Agtlf (Lth, O, TA) mina AlgaAliyapi (Lth, O) or mina AlT~iybi : (TA:) but accord. to the saying of IDrd [mentioned above], these are wrong, and should be only tagal~aY and tagal~ala , and AigotalaY and Aigotal~a : (O:) or, accord. to Ibn-El-Faraj, one says bAlgAlyp ↓ tgl~f when it is external; and tgl~l bihaA when it is internal, at the roots of the hair.
