1. حَطِمَ
1 HaTima HTm HTmp , aor. HaTama , inf. n. HaTamN , It broke, or became broken, in pieces; as also ↓ AnHTm (Msb) and ↓ tHT~m : (TA:) or these two, (S, K,) or [correctly] the former [only], (TA,) it broke, or became broken: (S, K, TA:) or they are peculiarly said of that which is dry, or tough; (K, TA;) as a bone and the like. (TA.) ― -b2- [Hence,] HaTimati Ald~aAb~apu (assumed tropical:) The beast became aged [ and emaciated and weak, or broken with age: see HaTimN , below]. (S.) ― -b3- And (assumed tropical:) The beast had a disease ( termed HaTamN ) in his legs. (TA.) -A2- HaTamahu , (S, Msb, K,) aor. HaTima , (Msb, K,) inf. n. HaTomN , (S, Msb, K,) He broke it: (S, K:) or it applies peculiarly to that which is dry, or tough; (K, TA;) as a bone and the like: (TA:) as also ↓ HT~mhu , (K,) inf. n. taHoTiymN : (S:) or the latter signifies he broke it in pieces, (S,) and so the former; (Msb;) or the latter, he broke it much. (Msb, TA.) ― -b2- He, or it, crushed it, or bruised it; as, for instance, a lion, that which he devours; and as a camel and a sheep or goat, the ground with his feet or hoofs, and the trees and herbs in eating them; and as the wind, that upon which it blows [vehemently]. (TA.) It is said in a trad., raA^ayotu jahan~ama yaHotimu baEoDuhaA baEoDFA [ I saw Hell-fire, one part thereof crushing another: or, as though pressing upon another; from what next follows]. (TA.) One says of people crowding together, yaHoTimu baEoDuhumo baEoDFA [ They crush, bruise, or press upon, one another ]. (TA.) And of a vehement driver, yaHoTimu AlmaAla [ He bruises the cattle, or camels &c. ]. (A, TA.) ― -b3- One says also, laA taHoTimo EalayonaA AlmarotaEa , meaning (tropical:) Spoil not thou to us the pasturage by pasturing upon it. (TA.) ― -b4- And HaTama fulaAnFA A^aholuhu (tropical:) His family rendered such a one a broken old man; as though they loaded him with their burdens. (TA.) And HaTamatohu Als~in~u (S) (assumed tropical:) Age rendered him infirm. (TA.)
