كِفَات

kifaAtN * A place in which a thing is drawn together, or comprehended, (S, K,) and collected, or congregated. (K.) So in the words of the Kur [lxxvii. 25 and 26,] A^alamo najoEali A@loA^aroDa kifaAtFA A^aHoyaA'F waA^amowaAtFA [ Have we not made the earth a place which comprehends the living and the dead? meaning kifaAta A^aHoyaA'K waA^amowaAtK :] (S:) EshShaabee, pointing to the houses of El-Koofeh, said, h`*ihi kifaAtu AlA^aHoyaA'$ ; and then, turning to its tombs, he said, h`dhi kifaAtu AlA^amowaAti ; meaning to explain the above text of the Kur: but ISd thinks, that kfAtA in this text is an inf. n., and that AHyA' and AmwAtA are governed by it in the acc. case.
