1. مُسَيَّحٌ
musay~aHN * (assumed tropical:) Striped; applied in this sense to a [garment of the kind called] burod ; (S, K;) and also, with p , to a [garment such as is called] EabaA='ap : (S:) or applied to [the garments called] EabaA=' as meaning having alternate stripes of white and black, the latter not intensely black: every EbA'p also is termed ↓ sayoHN and musay~aHapN : but that which has not stripes is a kisaA=' , not an EbA'p . (ISh, TA.) So too applied to locusts ( jaraAd ); (K;) and with p applied to a single locust [i. e. jaraAdap ]: (TA:) or, applied to locusts, it means marked with black and yellow and white stripes or streaks. (As, TA.) It is also applied as an epithet to the [bird called] HayoquTaAn . (S.) ― -b2- (tropical:) The wild ass: so called because of his streak that makes a division between the belly and the side. (K, TA.) musay~aHu AlEajiyzapi (tropical:) [ He that has the rump streaked ] is an epithet applied to the [wild] ass because of the whiteness on his rump. (A, TA.) ― -b3- (tropical:) A road of which the tracks ( $arak or $uruk in different copies of the K) are rendered apparent: (K, TA:) likened to the EabaA=' thus termed. (TA.)
2. مَسِيحٌ
masiyHN * Anointed: wiped over with some such thing as oil. (K.) ― -b2- A king. (El-'Eynee.) ― -b3- AlmasiyHu [ The Messiah, the Christ, the Anointed, ] Jesus, on whom be peace ! (S, Msb, K,) [correctly] an arabicized word, [from the Hebrew,] originally ma$iyHaA , with $ : (T, Msb:) but the learned differ as to this word, whether it be Arabic or arabicized: F relates, in the K, his having mentioned, in his Expos. of the Meshárik el-Anwár, fifty opinions respecting the derivation of it; and in another work he has made the number fifty-six. (TA.) ― -b4- Also, (K,) or AlmasiyHu Alka*~aAbu , (S,) or ↓ Almis~iyHu , (K,) [ The Messiah, or Christ, surnamed the Great Liar; the False Christ; Antichrist; also called] EdDejjál, Ald~aj~aAlu : (S, K:) it is not allowable, however, to apply to him the appellation AlmasiyHu without restriction; wherefore one says AlmasiyHu Ald~aj~aAlu [or Alka*~aAbu ]; (TA;) [unless in a case like the following, in which] a poet says A_i*aA AlmasiyHu yaqotulu AlmasiyHa [ When the true Messiah shall slay the false Messiah ] (Msb.) [Many opinions respecting the derivation of the appellation thus applied are also mentioned by various authors.] ― -b5- masiyHN Sweat: (T, S, K:) so called because it is wiped off ( yumosaHu ) when it pours forth. (T.) ― -b6- masiyHN (tropical:) A dirhem [or silver coin] of which the impression is obliterated; syn. A^aTolasu ; (S, Msb, K;) having no impression. (Msb.) ― -b7- masiyHN (S, K) and ↓ masiyHapN (TA) A piece of silver. (As, S, K.) ― -b8- masiyHN . (tropical:) i. q. mamosuwHu Alwajohi , (K,) i.e., A man having one side of his face plain, without eye or eyebrow: said to apply in this sense to EdDejjál, among others. (IF, L.) ― -b9- One-eyed. (Az.) [See also A^amosaHu .] ― -b10- masiyHN A rough napkin, or kerchief, with which one wipes himself: (L, K:) so called because the face is wiped with it, or because it retains the dirt. (TA.) [A dusting-cloth, or dish-clout, or the like, is now called ↓ mimosaHapN .] ― -b11- masiyHN Beautiful in the face. (TA.) ― -b12- masiyHN One who journeys or goes about much for the sake of devotion, or as a devotee; as also ↓ mis~iyHN (K,) and ↓ A^amosaHu , (TA,) the fem. of which is masoHaA='u . (K, TA.) See mas~aAHN . -A2- masiyHN (tropical:) Multum coiens; as also ↓ maAsiHN . (K.) ― -b2- masiyHN Erring greatly. (TA.) ― -b3- masiyHN A great liar; one who lies much; as also ↓ maAsiHN and ↓ mimosaHN (K) and ↓ timosaHN (Lh, K) and ↓ A^amosaHu , (TA,) the fem. of which last is masoHaA='u . (K, TA.) See maAsiHN . -A3- masiyHN Very veracious; syn. Sid~iyqN : (K, L, TA: in the CK SadiyqN :) a meaning unknown to many of the lexicologists, and probably obsolete in their time. (L.) -A4- masiyHN Created blessed, and goodly; (L;) created ( mamosuwHN ) with blessing, or prosperity: (K:) ― -b2- and, contr., created accursed, and foul, or ugly; (L;) created with unfortunateness.
