نَحْس

1 naHisa * , aor. naHasa ; (S, A, K;) and naHusa , aor. naHusa ; (K;) and naHisu , like [its contr.] suEida ; (Bd, xvii. 30;) inf. n. [of the first] naHasN and [of the second nuHuwsapN ; (TA;) He, or it, was, or became, unprosperous, unfortunate, inauspicious, or unlucky: (S, A, K:) said of a man, (A, Bd,) and of a star, (TA,) or other thing. (S, TA.)

naHosN * Unprosperousness, unfortunateness, inauspiciousness, or unluckiness; contr. of saEodN ; (S, A, K;) of stars, and of other things: pl. [of pauc.] A^anoHusN and [of mult.] nuHuwsN ; (TA;) and manaAHisu is an irreg. pl. of the same, (TA,) syn. with ma$aAy^imu , (IDrd, K, TA,) which is in like manner an irreg. pl. of $uw^omN . (TA.) [In Har, p. 375 , a doubt is expressed respecting manaAHisu , as to its being a pl. of naHosN ; but only from ignorance of their being any authority for its being so: it may, however, be pl. of manoHasapN , and not of naHosN .] In the Kur, [liv. 19,] some read, fY yawomi naHosK [ In a day of unprosperousness ]: others read nHs as an epithet. naHisN * (S, A, K) and ↓ naHosN (S, A) and ↓ naHiysN (TA) and ↓ naHuwsN and ↓ munoHuwsN (A, TA) Unprosperous, unfortunate, inauspicious, or unlucky. (S, A, K.) You say, rajulN naHisN and naHosN (A) and manoHuwsN (A, TA) [ An unprosperous man ]: pl. of the last, manaAHiysu . (TA.) And yawomN naHosN (S, A, TA) [and naHisN ] and naHuwsN (A, TA) and naHiysN and manoHuwsN (TA) [ An unprosperous day ]: and in the pl., A^ay~aAmN naHosN , [which seems to indicate that naHosN is originally an inf. n.,] (TA,) and naHosapN , and naHosaAtN , which is pl. of naHosapN , (Az, TA,) and naHisapN , (K,) and [its pl.] naHisaAtN , (S, TA,) and naHiysapN , (K.) [and app. ↓ naAHisapN ,] and [its pl.] nawaAHisu . (TA.) In the Kur, [liv. 19,] some read, ↓ fiY yawomK naHosK [ In an unprosperous day ], as well as fiY yawomi naHosK : (S, TA:) and AA reads [in the Kur, xli. 15,] fiY A^ay~aAmK naHosaAtK : and naHisaAtK is another reading. (TA.) You also say, ↓ EaAmN naAHisN and ↓ naHiysN , meaning, (tropical:) A year of dearth or drought or sterility: (IDrd, K:) so they assert. (IDrd.) And ↓ Aln~aHosaAni is an appellation of The two planets Saturn and Mars: (Ibn-'Abbád, K:) like as [the contr.] Als~aEodaAni is applied to Venus and Mercury. (Ibn-'Abbád.)
