1 ragiba * , aor. ragaba , inf. n. ragobapN (JK, TA) and ragobaY (JK) [and app. ragabN &c. as in the next sentence but one], He desired a thing [app. in an absolute sense, agreeably with what follows in the next sentence but one: and also,] vehemently, eagerly, greedily, very greedily, with avidity, excessively, or culpably; he coveted a thing, longed for it, or lusted after it. (TA.) ragabu Aln~afosi means The [ soul's ] hoping largely, and desiring much. (TA.) ― -b2- ragiba fiyhi , (S, A, Mgh, Msb, K, &c.,) and ragibahu , (Msb, TA,) aor. ragaba , (K, TA,) inf. n. ragobapN (S, A, * Mgh, K) and ragabN (S, Msb) and ragobN (Mgh, Msb, K) and rugobN (K) and rugobaY (A, * Msb) and ragobaY (Msb) and ragobaA='u , (A, * Msb,) He desired it, or wished for it; (S, A, Mgh, Msb, K;) as also fyh ↓ Artgb . (S, K.) You say, maA liY fiyhi ragobapN and rugobaY and ragobaA='u [ I have not any desire, or wish, for it ]. (A.) And ruhobaAka xayorN mino rugobaAka , i. e. The fearing thee is better than the loving thee; rhbAk being an inf. n. prefixed to an objective complement; and so rgbAk : and said to mean, thy being given a thing through fear of thee is better than through desire: a prov., similar to rahabuwtN xayorN mino raHamuwtK . Prov. i. 542.]) ― -b3- ragiba Eanohu He did not desire it, or wish for it; (S, A, Mgh, Msb, K;) he shunned, or avoided, it; abstained from it; (S, TA;) or left it, relinquished it, or forsook it, (JK, S, TA,) intentionally. (JK, TA.) ― -b4- ragiba A_ilayohi , inf. n. ragabN (K) and ragobN and rugobN (TA) and rugobaY (Mgh, * K) and ragobaY (K) and ragobaA='u (A, * K) and ragobapN (Mgh, * TA) and rugobapN and ragabapN and ragabuwtN , and ragabuwtaY and ragabaAnN , (K,) He made petition to him, addressed a petition to him, asked him, petitioned him, sought of him, or demanded of him: (TA:) or he prayed to him, or supplicated him, with humility or abasement, or with sincerity or earnestness or energy: or he humbled, or abased, himself, and made petition to him. (K, A, TA.) You say, ragiba A_ilaY fulaAnK fiY ka*aA He made petition to such a one, petitioned him, or asked him, for such a thing. (TA.) And A_ilaY A@ll~`hi A^arogabu To God I humble, or abase, myself, and make petition; syn. A^aDoraEu : and A_ilayoh$ A^arofaEu ragobatiY [ To Him I raise my humble petition ]. (A.) And Alr~uhobaY mina A@ll~`hi waAlr~ugobaY A_ilayohi [ Fear should be of God; (not of a creature;) and petition, &c., should be to Him ]. (Lth, TA in art. rhb .) (K.) And ragibotu bifulaAnK Eano h`*aA I made such a one to shun, abstain from, or leave, this, disliking it for him. [See also 6.]) You say, raguba AlwaAdiY , aor. raguba , inf. n. rugobN and rugubN (K) and ragaAbapN , (TA,) (assumed tropical:) The valley was large and wide, taking, or receiving, much water. (K, * TA.) And ragubati AlA^aroDu , inf. n. rugobN [&c.], (assumed tropical:) The land was soft (S, TA) and wide, with even, or sandy, soil: (TA:) or (S, TA) took much water; (TA;) was such as would not flow unless in consequence of much rain.
