طَوِيل

TawiylN * Elongated, or extended; [i. e. long; and tall, or high; ] (S, O, Msb, K;) as also ↓ TuwaAlN ; (S, O, K; but see Tuw~aAlN ;) and ↓ musotaTiylN : and ↓ A^aTowalu is used in the sense of TawiylapN , [being syn. sometimes with TawiylN and TawiylapN ,] in a verse of El-Farezdak cited voce EaziyzN : (O, TA:) [it seems, from a comparison of explanations of suroHuwbN and salohabN &c. in the S and K, that TawiylN applied to a horse or the like generally signifies long-bodied: ] TawiylN is the only epithet, known to IJ, of the measure faEiylN having the f and l sound and having w for its E , except SawiybN and qawiymN ; for EawiySN is [held by him to be only] used as a subst.: (M in art. Swb :) the pl. (of TawiylN and TuwaAlN , TA) is TiwaAlN (S, O, Msb, K) and TiyaAlN ; (S, O, K;) the latter anomalous, and said by IJ to occur only in one verse: (TA:) the fem. is TawiylapN (Msb, K) and TuwaAlapN ; (K, * TA;) and the pl. of the former of these is TawiylaAtN . (Msb.) ― -b2- They said, A_in~a All~ayola TawiylN walaA yaTulo A_il~aA bixayorK [ Verily the night is long, and may it not be long save with good fortune ]: mentioned by Lh, as expressing a prayer. (TA.) And qaSiyrapN mino TawiylapK [ A short thing from a tall thing]; meaning a date from a palm-tree: a prov., alluding to the abridging of speech, or language. (IAar, Meyd, K.)
