1 xabuva xbv , (S, Mgh, Msb, K, &c.,) aor. xabuva , (Msb, K,) inf. n. xabaAvapN , (S,) or xubovN , the former being a simple subst., (Msb,) or both, (Mgh, K, [the latter word erroneously written in the CK xabov ,]) and xabaAviyapN , (K,) said of a thing, (S, Mgh, Msb,) It was, or became, xabiyv [q. v., meaning bad, &c.]; contr. of TaAba . (S, Mgh, Msb, K.) [Hence,] xabuvato raAy^iHatuhu (tropical:) [ Its, or his, odour was, or became, bad, foul, or abominable ]. (A.) And xabuva TaEomuhu (tropical:) [ Its taste was, or became, bad, foul, abominable, or nauseous ]. (A.) And xabuvato nafosuhu (tropical:) His soul [or stomach ] became heavy; (TA;) it heaved, or became agitated by a tendency to vomit; syn. gavato : (A and TA in the present art., and S and K in art. gvY : [see also ma*irato nafosuhu , in art. m*r :]) a phrase forbidden by Mohammad to be used; as though he disliked the word xubovN . (TA.) One says of certain food, taxobuvu Eanohu Aln~afosu (tropical:) [ The soul, or stomach, becomes heavy, or heaves, or becomes agitated by a tendency to vomit, in consequence of it ]. (TA.) ― -b2- xabuva , (S, A, K,) inf. n. xubovN , (S, K,) said of a man, signifies [in like manner] He was, or became, xabiyv , (S, A, K,) meaning bad, corrupt, base, or abominable; wicked, deceitful, guileful, artful, crafty, or cunning. (S, K, TA. [See also 4.]) [Hence,] xabuva bihaA (tropical:) He committed adultery, or fornication, with her. (A, Mgh, Msb, K.) ― -b3- [It is also said of a venomous reptile and the like, meaning It was, or became, malignant, or noxious; impure, unclean, foul, or filthy. ]

xubovN xbv an inf. n. of xabuva : (S, Mgh, Msb, K:) [used as a simple subst., it means Any of the qualities denoted by the epithet xabiyvN , q. v., i. e. badness, &c.:] and ↓ xib~iyvaY signifies the same: (K:) or this is a subst. from A^axobva meaning “ he had a bad, wicked, or deceitful, family; ” (TA;) and signifies the state of having bad, wicked, or deceitful, companions or friends or connexions: (L:) ↓ xaAbivapN , also, is syn. with [ xubovN , and so is] ↓ xabaAvapN , (K,) [for] this last is another inf. n. of xabuva , like xubovN , (S, Mgh, K,) or it is a simple subst. (Msb.) [Hence,] the first particularly signifies (tropical:) Adultery, or fornication. (K, TA.) See also xabiyvN , in three places.

xabavN xbv The dross of iron, (S, TA,) and of silver, when they are molten. (TA.) [Hence the saying,] layosa AlA_iboriyzu kaAlxabavi [lit. Pure gold is not like dross ]; meaning (tropical:) the good is not like the bad. (A, TA.) ― -b2- Adulterating alloy in gold and iron &c. (Har p. 135.) ― -b3- A thing wherein is no good. (TA.) ― -b4- (tropical:) Excrement, or ordure: impurity, or filth. (Mgh in art. ql , and TA.) Hence the saying in a trad., A_i*aA balaga AlmaA='u qul~atayoni lamo yaHomilo xabavFA [explained in art. AHl ]. (Mgh ubi suprà, and TA.)
