εἰλῐτενής

εἰλιτενής [adj.] said of ἄγρωστις (i.e. ‘dog’s tooth grass’), mg. unknown (Theoc. 13, 42). «Ὁ eETYM Poetic formation, modelled after εἰλι-κρινής, -πους; the second member is probably related to » τείνω (cf. ἀτενής), while the first member has been connected with εἰλέω ‘turn, wind’ (Frisk), but “die sich windend ausdehnende” is just a guess. εἰλιτενής : épithète de ἄγρωστις « chiendent » (Théoc. 13,42). Et.: Le second terme doit être rapproché de la racine de τείνω, Le premier peut être le même que celui qui figure dans εἰλίπους, εἰλικρινῆς, donc se rattacherait à εἰλέω 2 « tourner ἡ : il s'agirait de la progression de la plante rampante ; la liaison avec ἕλος «bas-fond » par étymologie populaire n'est pas impossible, cf.
