Dérivés σμωδικός «qui convient pour soigner de telles meurtrissures » (Gal.). Et.: Suffixe expressif qui se trouve notamment dans les termes médicaux comme φῦσιγξ, φαῦσιγξ, μῆνιγξ, κύστιγξ.
