What it meant

1. ἄητος · aētos — Beekes

ἄητος [adj.] in θάρσος dntov (Φ 395), mg. uncertain. eVAR Cf. also θάρσος Gatov (Q. S. 1, 217). Αἰσχύλος Ἀθάμαντι ‘great (Aesch.)’ (H.), ἄητος: ὁ ἀκατάπαυστος ‘incessant’ (Hdn. Gr. 1, 220). *ETYM The first explanation connects the word with ἄμεναι, » doat ‘to satiate’, but this would mean that it differs from Gatoc, τος by its long … — [Beekes, s.v. ἄητος, p. 75]

2. ἄητος · aētos — Chantraine

— [Chantraine, s.v. ἄητος, p. 41]

Vgl.H. Hdn. Gr. 1,220 äntos‘ 6 ἀκατάπαυστος. Die Erklärung durch ἀκόρεστοι, ἄπληστοι läßt auf Assoziation mit duevau, ἄσαι schließen; von ἄατος, ärog unterscheidet sich ἄητος somit durch die (sekundäre?) Verlängerung des Vokals. Vgl. auch αἴητος. — [Frisk, s.v. ἄητος, p. 57]

4. ἄητος · aētos — Frisk

Risch Lex. Ep. vermutet Zusammenhang mit ἄημι. — Zu ἄητος, αἴητος, ἀήτης noch Sabbadini Riv. di studi class. 15 (1967) 78-84 (Referat der Diskussion). ῷ 4 — [Frisk, s.v. ἄητος, p. 2145]
