αἱμασιά [f.] ‘wall around a terrain’, of stone (thus Hdt. 2, 138) or thorns (Od.). «ἡ» VAR Cf. aipol: δρυμοί. Αἰσχύλος Aitvaiais ‘copses, thickets (A. Aitnaiai)’ (H.). *ETYM Comparable with Lat. sae pés ‘hedge, fence’, which has p for m. Fur. 223 finds the variation in other non-IE loans, eg. αἱμασιά (seit Od.) “Umfriedigung, Zaun, Mauer’, aus Stein (so sicher Hdt. 2, 138), wohl auch aus Dornen, vgl. αἱμοί" δρυμοί. Αἰσχύλος Αἰτναίαις H. Ableitung αἱμασιώδης (Pl.). — Seit Froehde BB 17, 318 wird αἱμασιά gewöhnlich mit lat. saepes verglichen, so zuletzt Specht KZ 68, 124 mit dem Versuch, einen Wechsel p : m morphologisch zu begründen.
