ἀλάλυγξ, τυγγος [f.] ‘gulping, choking’ (Nic. Al. 18). *ETYM One suggests contamination of λύγξ ‘hiccup’ and another word, like » ἀλύω or » ἀλάομαι; this is not very convincing.
