ἀλφός ist mit lat. albus, umbr. alfu ‘alba’ identisch; eine Erweiterung mit idg. d-Suffix (s. χεμάς) liegt vor im germ. und slav. Wort für ‘Schwan’, z.B. ahd. albiz, aksl. lebedv. Unter den zahlreichen Ortsnamen, die hierhergezogen worden sind, sind besonders zu erwähnen die Flußnamen Algeıös, lat. Albula, ferner lat. Albis = nhd.
