ἀμείνων [adj.] “better, stronger, more advantageous’ (IL). «Ὁ» *ETYM No etymology. Attic proper names with Ajtetv- are supposed to show that the -et- is a real diphthong, so it does not derive from *d&teviwv. DELG therefore remarks that the word could be an old positive. Seiler 1950: 120 assumed *d-pEtviwv, from *\uvdic with privative a-; this is improbable. Note that a root *h.mein- would violate the IE root … — [Beekes, s.v. ἀμείνων, p. 133]

Ἐμεῖνον Minderung’ hervorgegangen, das als Komparativ umgedeutet und als Komparativ flektiert worden wäre.
