What it meant — Lane's Arabic-English Lexicon

1 qawiYa * and ↓ taqaw~aY (S, K) and ↓ AiqotawaY (K) He became strong: (S, K:) vigorous, robust, or sturdy; like Ai$otad~a , or the last signifies he became excellent in strength. (TA.) ― -b2- qawiYa Ealayohi He had strength, or power, sufficient for it; or he had strength, or power, to endure it; he prevailed against it; namely, travel, adversity, &c. And He or it, prevailed over him, or it. ― -b3- See 4. ― -b4- qawiYa is [said to be] originally qawiwa , because it is from Alquw~apu : (I'Ak, p. 368:) but Lth holds quw~apN to be [anomalous,] originally quwyapN . (TA.) I prefer the former opinion, and think it should be mentioned in art. qw , or I would rather head this art. qw or qwY , like gw or gwY . ISd holds quw~apN to be from qww , like vuw~apN , q. v. from vww .
