Beppéat κληρῶσαι H., which may be corrupt. eETYM Kretschmer KZ 35 (1899): 605 and Fraenkel Glotta 2 (1910): 37 connect the word with μέρος, μείρομαι with dissimilation from pep-v-. von Blumenthal Glotta 18 (1930): 153f. argues for Illyrian origin (cf. φερνή). — [Beekes, s.v. βερνώμεθα, p. 258]

βερνώμεθα : χληρωσώμεθα, Λάκωνες (Hsch}, mais dans βερρέαι * κληρῶσαι (Hsch.), le lemme est corrompu et ne peut être restitué. On admet une parenté avec μέρος, μείρομαι, un thème uep-v- et une dissimilation {Kretschmer, KZ 35,605; E. Fraenkel, GI. 2, 1910, 37). Tout cela est bien douteux.
