1. βύσταξ · bystax — Beekes
βύσταξ [π|.] ‘moustache’ (Antiph. 44.4 apud Ath. 4, 143a). *VAR Cf. Bbotaya: πώγωνα ‘beard’ (H.). *ETYM The explanation of βύσταξ as adapted from μύσταξ after Buvéw is highly improbable. Rather, it is evidently cognate with μύσταξ, the words being of Pre250 βύτανα Greek origin because of the alternation B ~ μ (Fur.: 116, 218; cf. «/ γ, see also Giintert 1914: 128).
