wash out, esp. wash out colours from cloths, ἵνα..μὴ αὐτῶν ἐκπλύναι τὴν βαφήν Pl. R. 430a; ἐκπλύναντας τὴν οἰσπώτην having washed out the grease and dirt, Ar. Lys. 575 :—Pass., τὰ δὲ ζῷα οὐκ ἐκπλύνεσθαι the pattern is not washed out, Hdt. 1.203.
