Κήϊος inhabitant of Keos (1A); Kéog [f.] place on Salamis (Hdt. 8, 76). *ETYM Solmsen 1901: 125 suggests derivation from "κῆρος ‘fire’ (to » καίω), which must be wrong, as it is a Pre-Greek name. Fick 1905: 59 compares Κέως Κήιος Κεῖος with Τέως Τήϊιος and Κόως Κῶιος and Cret. Λάτως Λάτιος, and notes as older forms Κήως Τήως Κώως, — [Beekes, s.v. Κέως, p. 730]

Ra. 970; ἀκόλαστόν τινα . . , καὶ οὐδαμῶς Κεῖον Pl. Prt. 341e, cf. Lg. 638b; prov., ἐν Κέῳ τίς ἡμέρα; Crates Com. 29.5. (Not to be confused with Κέος IG 42(1).122.117, or with Κέος Hdt. 8.76 (cf. Wiener Sitzb. 211(1).30).)
