Larissa, a name of many old Greek cities, Il. 2.841, etc.; Pelasgic acc. to Str. 9.5.19, 13.3.2: an Ion. form Λήρισαι (in Aeolis) occurs in Hdt. 1.149; orig. it denoted a citadel, such as the Larissa of Argos, St.Byz., Sch. A.R. 1.40.
