LXX, medic.). < PG(s)> DER μωλωποικός ‘stripy’ (Gal.), -ίζω [v.] ‘to make stripes, wallop, bash’ (Aq. , Plu.). *ETYM The analysis as a compound containing -wy ‘eye, sight, etc’ is wrong. μώλωψ, τ-ῶπος : m. « meurtrissure, marque d’un coup, bleu » (Hyp., Arist., LXX, médecins); d'où polomxéc « meurtri » (Gal.), μωλωπίζω « faire des meurtrissures, des bleus » (Aq., Plu., etc.), avec μωλωπισμός (tardif). μώλωψ, -wros m, “Strieme, blutunterlaufene Stelle” (Hyp., Arıst., LXX, Mediz. usw.) mit μωλωποικός "striemig’ (Gal.), -i£o “Striemen machen, bleuen, mürbe schlagen’ (Agq., Plu. u.a.). Bildung wie 1. μύ-ωψ, Böo-wyp u.a. (Schwyzer 426 A.4), somit wohl als Vorderglied ein Nomen enthaltend, das indessen ohne sichere Anknüpfung ist.
