stick in a trap on which the bait is placed, and which, when touched by the animal, springs up and shuts the trap, Poll. 7.114, 10.156: metaph., σκανδάληθρʼ ἱστὰς ἐπῶν setting word-traps, i.e. throwing out words which oneʼs adversary will catch at, and so be caught himself, Ar.
