σκεθρός [adj.] ‘exact, careful (Hp. Gal, Lyc.). eVAR -ὥς (A. Pr. E. Fr. 87). *ETYM According to Frisk s.v., this word is a formation in -@po- from a stem σχε- as found in σχεῖν ‘to hold’ (cf. »éyw), showing the reflex of Grassmann’s Law. Since the suffix -θρο- is rather rare, the assumption that this word is a -po-derivation from the verb σχέθω ‘to hold back’ might have more merit (contra Chantraine 1933: 225, … — [Beekes, s.v. σκεθρός, p. 1396]

σκεθρός : «exact, précis » (Hp., Gal., Lyc.), avec l’adv. en -&c (Æsch. Pr. 102, E. fr. 87). Ei.: Tiré du radical σχε- de ἔσχον avec un suffixe -θρός et dissimilation d'aspirées, cf. pour le suffixe Chantraine, Formation 372, Benveniste, Origines 202. Le 6 n'est pas issu de σχεθεῖν mais connote la même nuance d'achèvement. L'adjectif a dû signifier «en 500 tenant, avec application ». — [Chantraine, s.v. σκεθρός, p. 1032]
