σκολύθριον [n.] ‘footstool’ (Pl. Euthd. 278b, Poll.). eVAR KOAvOpov (Telecl.). σκόπελος 1357 *DER σκόλυθρος ‘low’ (H., Phot., Suid.), σκολύθρων: ταπεινῶν. ἀπὸ σκολύθρων δίφρων (H.). eETYM Diminutive of an unattested word *oxdA vOpov, which seems to be a variant of κόλυθρον. This could point to Pre-Greek origin. A connection with σκολύπτειν (thus Frisk s.v.) is formally and semantically unlikely. — [Beekes, s.v. σκολύθριον, p. 1407]
