from the Scythian practice of scalping slain enemies, shave the head, ἐσκυθισμένος ξυρῷ E. El. 241; so [χαίτην] ἐσκύθιξε φασγάνῳ cut it off in mourning, Epigr.Gr. 790.8 (Achaea): cf. ἀποσκυθίζω.
