only in phrase [νῆα] θέμωσε . . χέρσον ἱκέσθαι drove the ship ashore, stranded her, Od. 9.486; but in ib. 542, drove her landwards, i.e. towards her destination: cf. θεμούς· διαθέσεις, παραινέσεις, Hsch., who also has θεμῶν· θελήμων.
