ὕφεαρ, -eapog [n.] Arcad. name of the mistletoe, “Viscum album’ (Thphr., H. who has bealap). «Ὁ» *ETYM Traditionally derived from Cypr. » ὑ- and *péfap, which would be a verbal ᾿ noun to ἔφυν ‘grew’, following the explanation in H.: τὸ ἐπιφυόμενον ταῖς πεύκαις καὶ ἐλάταις ‘what grows on firs’. This is quite doubtful, as a full grade pev- from this. root has further not been demonstrated in Greek with certainty (cf. … — [Beekes, s.v. ὕφεαρ, p. 1591]

ὕφεαρ, -éxpoc : n., nom arcadien du gui (Thphr., Hsch. οἱ le mot est écrit ὑφαίαρ). Et.: Obscure. Bechtel, Gr. Dial. 1,395, après Prellwitz, a admis un composé de chypr. ὑ- (cf. s.u.) et *oéFop qui serait tiré de la racine de ἔφυν, cf. l'explication d'Hsch. τὸ ἐπιφυόμενον ταῖς πεύκαις χαὶ ἐλάταις, mais la racine de épüv ne présente jamais et ne doit pas admettre de degré vocalique *pef- où ἔφευ-. — [Chantraine, s.v. ὕφεαρ, p. 1183]

Wörterbuch 62 978 ὕψι--ὅω nomen zu ἔφυν, gemäß der Erklärung bei H.: τὸ ἐπιφυόμενον ταῖς πεύκαις καὶ ἐλάταις.
