iam — de Vaan
iam 'now, already' [adv.] (Lex XII, Andr.+) PIE *hji-h2-m [ace] 'this'. IE cognates: see s.v. is. Probably *iam. Since the meaning of the adverbs in *-<5m (acc.sg.f.) was 'as far as, in respect of, *iam meant 'as far as this is concerned' > 'now'. Possibly, *iam is a remake of ΡΪΕ acc.sg. *Tm 'he, she', with *-am from other inflected pronouns (quam etc,)' Later, the form was replaced by earn. Bibl.: WH I: 668, EM … — [de Vaan, s.v. iam, p. 307]
